Castle to open season BROWNSVILLE – Nemacolin Castle along Front Street in Brownsville will open the 2003 season Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20. Castle tours will be conducted both days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include a spring flower show. All rooms will be decorated with fresh flowers and blooming plants.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, the Brownsville Historical Society and the Greater Brownsville Area Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor children’s activities on the castle grounds. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt, Bonnet Parade and a visit with the Easter Bunny. Prizes will be awarded. Children are asked to bring their own containers for eggs. The activities are for children age 12 and under.
There is no charge for the activities on the castle grounds or for parking, but visitors must pay admission for castle tours.
Brownsville is located on Route 40, approximately 20 miles east of Washington and 12 miles west of Uniontown.

Recitals to continue
The 2003 Lenten Mini-Recital Series will continue at Asbury United Methodist Church on Wednesday with organist, Marisa Cazden.
Cazden is presently music director and organist at Our Lady of Grace Church in Greensburg. She holds a bachelor’s degree in organ performance from SUNY at Fedonia and a master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Arizona in Tucson.
The recital will precede the regular Wednesday Lenten Luncheon and will begin at 11:15 a.m.
The recital will end at 11:50 a.m., which will allow those who wish to attend the luncheon following the recital ample time to adjourn to the church social hall.
A free-will offering will be accepted to defray costs of the mini-series.
Cal U to present art show
The work of Cal U Assistant Professor Laura DeFazio will be featured in her own one-person art show at the Science Hall Gallery of Westmoreland County Community College.
The gallery will display DeFazio’s installation of life-size drawings hanging in space now through Friday, March 28.
The show also includes a lecture, which will be given by DeFazio March 6 at 7 p.m.
In addition to her involvement with a number of art organizations in Pittsburgh, DeFazio sits on the board of The Society of Sculptors and received an Honorable Mention for a work she exhibited in the 2002 Art Nationals.
DeFazio was commissioned last August by the Uniontown Art Club to sculpt a piece to be placed in front of the Uniontown Public Library.
The life-size figure cast in concrete was unveiled in a public ceremony, which was held Aug. 10 this year.
