Library announces chess tournament winners

MASONTOWN – The German-Masontown Public Library recently held its second Chess Tournament. Of the 21 registrants, 19 students actually participated. The 19 students represented kindergarten through sixth grade. There were no seventh or eighth graders represented this year. The winners in the Junior Division, kindergarten through fourth grade, were:

– Danny Senerl, fourth grade, Masontown Elementary School, first-place trophy winner.

– Matthew Soles, second grade, All Saints School, second-place trophy winner.

The winners in the Senior Division, fifth through eighth grades, were:

– John Olish, sixth grade, Albert Gallatin North, first-place trophy winner.

– Mark Hlatky, sixth grade, Albert Gallatin North, second-place winter.

Other participants in the Chess Tournament were Michael Oppman, kindergarden at All Saints School; Natalie Conte, first grade at All Saints School; Alexandra Core, first grade at All Saints School; Cody Yeager, second grade at A.L. Wilson School; Zachary McClure, second grade at Masontown Elementary; Nicholas Oppman, third grade at All Saints School; Sean Baker, fourth grade at Masontown Elementary; Steven Hlatky, fourth grade at George J. Plava School; Vinny Pahula, fourth grade at Masontown Elementary; Casey Riedmann, fourth grade at Smithfield School; Lindsey Core, fourth grade at All Saints School; Andrew Milliken, fourth grade at Masontown Elementary; Michael Hamilla, fifth grade at A.L. Wilson School; Jason Grow, sixth grade home schooled; Matthew Sobkowiak, sixth grade at All Saints School.

All participants received a certificate for their participation in the tournament.
