River City to bring distinct brass sound to Uniontown
The State Theatre Center for the Arts will present the renowned River City Brass Band at 8 p.m. Friday, April 11. Robert Bernat founded River City Brass Band in 1981 in Pittsburgh.
Modeled on the British-style brass band with distinct instrumentation of brass and percussion, the RCBB was the first professional concert band to be established in the United States in more than 25 years.
Now in its seventh season under the baton of conductor and musical director Denis Colwell, the band is the most active professional concert band in the country, presenting more than 100 concerts each year.
In addition to its annual 56-concert series presented in Western Pennsylvania, River City Brass Band tours extensively throughout the U.S. performing concert series, major symphony series and arts festivals.
This lively concert will feature the kind of entertaining program that has made the RCBB one of today’s most popular touring attractions.
Often called “The Boston Pops – in Brass” the RCBB performs a varied repertoire ranging from familiar folk songs, show tunes, to marches.
Typical River City Brass programs include selections designed to display the virtuosity of the group’s musicians and the broad range of sounds that a brass band can produce.
