Hopwood to host parade during National Road Festival
HOPWOOD – The fourth annual Hopwood Village Parade, celebrating the National Road Festival, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. The parade will begin at the National City Bank and proceed on Route 40 to the Bennington Road intersection. Amvets Post 103 color guard will lead the matches, which will include the Laurel Highlands Junior High School Band, A.J. McMullen Middle School Band, groups from the Hopwood United Methodist Church, Fayette County Canine Search and Rescue, Laurel Highlands Senior High School and other community organizations.
Maxine White, “Miss Hopwood 2003,” will be honored.
The parade is one of several activities in the village. The Greater Uniontown Chorale will perform on the green at the Hopwood Fitness Center at 11:30 a.m., welcoming the wagon train, which will stop for lunch.
Following the parade, a variety of entertaining activities will take place along the National Pike. The Hutchinson Elementary School program will be held at 2 p.m. in the Ruse’s Roost parking lot. The Rx Plus lot will host the VIP Drama Team at 2:30 p.m. The Hopwood and Brownfield Methodist Church choirs will present a musical program at Lininger’s Gulf Station at 3:30 p.m. Food, sidewalk sales and the annual Hopwood Garden Club Plant Sale will highlight the day’s events.
At 3 p.m., a fishing derby for children age 12 and under will take place at the Hutchinson Park. Prizes donated by Woodlands Outdoor World will be awarded. Participants must bring their own fishing gear.
An old-time doubleheader baseball game will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the South Union Township Recreational Park at Hutchinson. The Laurel Highlands Senior High School Jazz Band will entertain between games, and refreshments will be available.
