Chorale, children’s chorus to present Festival of Lessons and Carols

2 min read

The Greater Uniontown Chorale and Children’s Chorus will present A Festival of Lessons and Carols at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the sanctuary of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Uniontown. This presentation will be based upon a traditional Christmas Eve carol service that began 85 years ago in Cambridge, England. The city of Cambridge first held the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the historic King’s College Chapel on Christmas Eve, 1918, as a means of creating a more imaginative worship experience for the Church of England. Locally, the Festival of Lessons and Carols, arranged by John Leavitt, will feature the 30-voice Greater Uniontown Chorale and the Greater Uniontown Children’s Chorus. Orchestra and handbells will accompany the candlelit presentation. Joanna Ball will provide keyboard accompaniment, and the Chorale and Children’s Chorus will be under the direction of William M. Dreucci and Marsha Brady, respectively. Some choral numbers to be included in the service will include “Star Carol” by John Rutter, “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming,” “Coventry Carol,” “Shepherd’s Carol” by John Parker and “Jesus Christ the Apple Tree” by Elizabeth Poston.

Advance tickets for Festival of Lessons and Carols are available at Ellis Music, Judy’s Do Re Me Music Shop in downtown Uniontown, Amend’s Jewelry in the Uniontown Mall and Atkins Music Store in Connellsville. There is an admission charge. There will be no tickets sold at the door. Lessons and Carols will also be presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Scottdale Showtime Theatre in Scottdale.

Tickets for that presentation will be available at the Scottdale Showtime box office.
