local The Greater Uniontown Children’s Choir will present its annual spring concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Uniontown. Tickets will be available from choir members and prior to the concert at the Dunbar Street entrance of the church. The choir is under the direction of Marsha R. Brady of Connellsville. Chris Mickey is the accompanist for the group. The choir includes 14 students from the Fayette County area. They range in age from 9 to 16.

The choir will feature selections by Irving Berlin and George Gershwin. While presenting a wide variety of music from classical to secular, the choir will perform at the State Capitol in Harrisburg on Friday and Hershey Park on Saturday before returning home for this performance. The choir was founded in January 1998 by the Greater Uniontown chorale. The choir performs at Nemacolin Woodlands and Christian Klay Winery annually. The choir includes students from the Fayette County area. Students ages 8 to 17 may audition for the choir. Students don’t have to be great singers, but they must enjoy singing. The choir rehearses one day a week for two hours at Dunbar Borough Elementary School across from the Fayette County Fairgrounds. The choir will accept new members in September.Uniontown Senior Citizens’ Monthly Dance titled “Moments to Remember: A Salute to Our Veterans” will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday at the Uniontown VFW Post 47 on West Main Street, Uniontown. The Bill Francis Orchestra will provide music. Refreshments and door prizes are planned by the committee. Pete Porreca is commander of VFW Post 47. Kassie DeWalt is dance chairperson.

The American Cancer Society will hold its fourth annual “Celebration of Life” Gala at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa in Farmington from 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday in the Marquis Ballroom. The Planet Wireless Team will sponsor the event to raise money for the Relay for Life taking place Aug. 14-15 at the Laurel Highlands Football Stadium. A Chinese Auction, a 50/50 drawing and basket giveaways will be available at the gala. The Classics, a local band, will perform. A car and bike cruise will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Super Kmart parking lot in South Union Township.

The Albert Gallatin Senior Class will conclude the year on Friday with a senior breakfast, awards presentation, grand march, prom on the Gateway Clipper and Tropical Fantasy post prom.

During the grand march, held at 3:45 in the gymnasium and open to the public, the queen will be announced and crowned. Girls included in the prom court are Sara Galand, Erika Eberhart, Krystle Kopas, Samantha Chetosky, Judith Walton, Angela Allison, Erika Nevills, Gabrielle Locke and Michelle Beatty. Wayne Bowers is the class sponsor and coordinator of events. Tina Burns, Mr. Ralph Garcia, and Randy Wilson are the principals. Post Prom President is Shirley Korsh.

Classic Car Cruise will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Arctic Delite, which is located along Route 51 about three miles north of Uniontown. There is a vehicle registration fee. The Hempfield Area High School Marching Band will present the Povertyneck Hillbillies in a Tournament of Roses benefit concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hempfield High School Auditorium. The doors will open at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Hempfield Area High School from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Tickets may also be reserved by calling Kathy Tokar at 724-523-6448.

Remaining tickets will be sold at the door. Light refreshments and Tournament of Roses merchandise will be available during the evening. Chris Higbee, who performs on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo and does vocals, is a former student teacher for Dr. Rod Booker, director of the Hempfield Area Marching Band. The six musicians performing in the local band have packed clubs and headlined fairs and festivals.

Country music will be presented Saturday at the Sagebrush Round-Up on Bunner Ridge near Fairmont, W.Va. Featured acts include Granny Blosser & Bill Murray & Friends, Eileen Smith, Brad Crow & The Cut-Ups and Country Gospel Sounds. The house band is Stagecoach. Country music starts at 6 p.m. with the open stage.

Stagecoach backs single acts and new talent. The scheduled portion of the show starts at 7 p.m. and continues until 11 p.m.

There is a charge for adults and children under 12 are admitted free.

The Sagebrush Round-Up is located just six miles east of Interstate 79 at Exit 139 on Bunner Ridge near Fairmont, W.Va.

Turkeyfoot Valley Historical Society will sponsor “And We Arrived at the Turkeyfoot,” an event marking the 250th anniversary of George Washington’s journey through the Turkeyfoot area of southwestern Somerset County, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the “Point,” West Side, Confluence.

The event is free and open to the public. Activities are scheduled throughout the day, including a French, English and Native-American encampment with reenactors presenting a living history interpretation of the period, various speakers, a costume contest for elementary and middle school students and historical music.
