A revenge picture (“Prisoners”), a literary documentary (“Salinger”), and a colorful rerelease (“The Wizard of Oz: Imax 3-D”) open on this third Friday of September.

The new arrivals (with all dates subject to change) include:

“Battle of the Year: The Dream Team 3-D,” with Josh Peck, Laz Alonso and Josh Holloway in a PG-13 dance-competition tale about some American hoofers who plan to take the American team to win an international dance contest that the USA last won 15 years ago. Benson Lee (“Miss Monday”) directed.

“Populaire,” with Berenice Bejo and Romain Duris in an R-rated French comedy about a woman with the ability to type at super speed. That gift causes her handsome boss to encourage her to enter a typing contest. Regis Roinsard made his directing debut.

“Prisoners,” with Hugh Jackman leaving “The Wolverine” and “Les Miserables” behind to star in this intense R-rated thriller about a father who takes the law into his own hands after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped. The strong cast includes Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello and Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s already generating heat due to preview screenings that caused screams and cheers from audiences. Denis Villeneuve (“Incendies”) directed.

“Salinger,” with Edward Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robert Towne, Tom Wolfe, E.L. Doctorow and Gore Vidal providing their insights into reclusive author J.D. Salinger and his most famous work, “The Catcher in the Rye.” Screenwriter Shane Salerno (“Savages”) made his directing debut with this PG-13 documentary.

“The Wizard of Oz: Imax 3-D,” with Judy Garland and the rest of the colorful “Oz” characters in a remastered PG-rated version of the family favorite in pop-off-the-screen Imax 3-D. The glistening images prove absolutely staggering in this bigger-than-life version that’s scheduled to be in theaters for only one week. Victor Fleming directed.
