California University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will hold auditions for all ages for its holiday performance of “Miracle on 34th Street” Sept. 6 in Steele Hall. Participants should dress appropriately, bring their own shoes, and report to the lobby entrance of the Blaney Theatre, at the rear of Steele Hall, 30 minutes before their scheduled audition times. Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks presents the comedy “As You Like It” to celebrate 10th Anniversary of free Shakespeare in city parks. “As You Like It,” one of the Bard’s finest comedies which takes place in the ‘Forest of Arden’ and deals with the familiar themes of gender-disguising and mistaken identities. ”Out in Wonder” an exhibit of the work of Uniontown native Nance Lee Sneddon is on display at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington through Sept. 29. The show includes new contemporary tapestry paintings as well as functional jewelry and handbags.
The Mount Pleasant Glass Museum (the former Lenox factory) is Hands-on glass-cutting discussions with Peter O’Rourke will be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Oct. 25 and Nov. 15. Area students in grades seven through 12 can join the 304 Photo Club, which will meet twice monthly at Monongalia Arts Center, 101 High St., Morgantown. Meetings will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. every other Tuesday. Students taking part in the club, hosted by local photographer David Smith, will learn the basics of digital photography, lighting and composition, as well as more advanced techniques. The Frank L. Melega Art Museum announces Jon C. Crawford: “Scintillation,” a memorial exhibition of paintings and drawings by the late Jon C. Crawford (1952-2012) painter, sculptor, designer, art restorer, muralist, landscape architect and educator. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, 1-4 p.m. Sundays, and by appointment. The Sen. John Heinz History Center presents “Pittsburgh’s Lost Steamboat: Treasures of the Arabia” exhibit featuring more than 2,000 items recovered from the sunken paddle wheeler. Carnegie Museum of Art presents Teenie Harris Photographs: Baseball in Pittsburgh with a look back at the history of baseball in Pittsburgh. The exhibit includes 25 memorable photographs of the game and its players and never-before-seen 16mm film footage of the Negro League games at Greenlee Field and Forbes Field. Morgantown History Museum presents “Morgantown: 100 Years of Wild Blue Yondering.” The exhibit features milestones in Morgantown’s aviation history and will be on display through Sept. 20. The museum is located at 175 Kirk St. in Morgantown.
The documentary “Great White Shark” is currently featured at the Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh. The IMAX film features unique, slow-motion, underwater images and evolutionary history of the creatures which predate dinosaurs. The 40-minute film dazzles because a uniquely designed camera captured higher resolution images and slow-motion underwater footage than ever before. Jozart Center for the Arts in California will continue the Wine & Line program 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
