Clark Griswold’s plans for a good, old-fashioned, big family Christmas predictably turn into a good, old-fashioned, big disaster in National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation,” the special holiday movie in the Classic Film Series at the State Theatre in Uniontown, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 19.

The Griswolds, Clark (Chevy Chase), Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), Audrey (Juliette Lewis) and Rusty (Johnny Galecki) holiday is turned upside down when Clark accidentally causes a Chicago, city-wide power shortage when he turns on the 25,000 twinkle lights covering the Griswold house, his cousin Eddie Johnson (Randy Quaid), his wife Catherine (Miriam Flynn) and their children arrive unannounced and broke, Clark gets locked in the attic, and a disastrous holiday dinner begins with the Pledge of Allegiance and ends in Christmas tree sparks.

Those are a few of the Griswold “Christmas Vacation” hilarious highlights.

The modern Christmas classic, written by John Hughes, was released in 1989 and is a sequel to “Vacation.” The musical score for the film was composed by Angelo Badalamenti but “Christmas Vacation” is the only installment in the ‘Vacation’ series not to include Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road,” instead, “Christmas Vacation” a song written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and performed by Mavis Staples, is used in its place.

The classic film series is supported by the Herald-Standard Be Local program and the Downtown Business District Association, along with the theater, to create an event around each of the two viewings of the monthly movie.

Movie-goers will be entered into a $25 gift card drawing during both showings of “Christmas Vacation” at the State Theatre’s on Dec. 19.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children (veterans will be admitted free).
