The story of Victor Frankenstein is a familiar tale.

The well-known story of “mad scientist” Victor Frankenstein and his faithful assistant Igor and their attempt to re-animate life in the form of “The Monster” has been portrayed many times on the stage and on film.

”Victor Frankenstein,” released to DVD and Blu-ray this week, offers the audience a unique perspective as the story is told through the eyes of Igor starting with his origins, his friendship with Viktor Von Frankenstein and the emergence of the infamous Dr. Frankenstein.

Daniel Radcliffe (The “Harry Potter” Franchise) stars as Igor alongside James McAvoy (“Muppets Most Wanted” and “Atonement”) as Victor Frankenstein.

In an interview with USA Today, director Paul McGuigan said that a lot of effort went in to filming the climactic scene in the film.

”The best thing to do as a director is to give as much of the reality of the situation as you possibly can,” he said. “Actually sending two actors out to fight a monster in torrential rain and there’s all this dangerous stuff flying around and things blowing up, I don’t have to say much.”

The film is rated PG-13 for macabre images, violence and a sequence of destruction.

Other movies that became available on DVD and Blu-Ray this week include:

N ”The Peanuts Movie” starring the voices of Noah Schnapp, Bill Melendez and Hadley Belle Miller and directed by Steve Martino. Both Charlie Brown (Schnapp) and his faithful dog Snoppy (Melendez) set out on their own adventures in their big-screen debut in the form of 3D animation.

The film is rated G.

N ”In the Heart of the Sea” starring Chris Helmsworth, Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson and directed by Ron Howard. This real-life, high seas disaster that occurred in the winter of 1820 served as the inspiration for Herman Melville’s classic “Moby-Dick.”

The film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and peril, brief starling violence and thematic material.

TV shows now available for home viewing include:

N ”Grease Live” starring Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit and Vanessa Hudgens and directed by Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski. This live television performance tells the story of the popular high school musical featuring the lives of Sandy (Hough), Danny Zuko (Tveit) and Rizzo (Hudgens).

N ”The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” (season one) starring Ellie Kemper, Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess and created by Robert Carlock and Tina Fey. This Netflix original series follows the life of Kimmy Schmidt (Kemper) after she is rescued from a doomsday cult and lives her life in New York City with her employer (Krakowski) and friend/roommate (Burgess).

N ”Rookie Blue” (The final season) starring Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith and Enuka Okuma and created by Morwyn Brebner, Tassie Cameron and Ellen Vanstone. The series follows a group of five cops, right out of the academy, ready to work for an elite unit of police officers.
