Go!: New to Home Theaters
Available this week for home viewing is the three time Academy Award nominated “Brooklyn.” That tells the story of an Irish immigrant Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan) who comes to America and falls in love with Tony Fiorello (Emory Cohen).
Lacey is conflicted as the secrets of her past start to catch up with her and she must choose between her new life in America or her home across the sea.
For Ronan, “Brooklyn” hit a little close to home because she was born in New York and raised in Ireland.
“It was absolutely coincidental, but initially that was the attraction for me, apart from everyone who was involved. The two locations that make up the film are the two locations that make up me, and so it was personal straightaway. Just because mom and dad had such a similar journey, and so many people have,” she said in an interview with the entertainment website, Deadline. “I think that’s where the real responsibility came from. It’s that you knew you were representing millions of stories, whether they were Irish or not.”
The film is rated PG-13 for a scene of sexuality and brief strong language.
Other movies released on DVD and Blu-Ray this week include:
n “The Big Short” starring Christian Bale (Michael Burry), Steve Careel (Mark Baum) and Ryan Gosling (Jared Vennett) and directed by Adam McKay in this comedy/drama about businessmen during the credit and housing market collapse during the mid-2000s.

n “Sisters” starring Amy Poehler (Maura Ellis), Tina Fey (Kate Ellis) and Maya Rudolph (Brinda) directed by Jason Moore in this comedy about two sisters that had lost communication over the years that have reunited to clean out their former bedroom so their parents can sell their childhood home.
