Summer at the State will host auditions for its musicals April 9-10 at The State Theatre Center for the Arts in Uniontown. This year there will be two shows: “Chicago” July 28, 29 and 30 and a family show that cannot be named yet July 14, 15 and 16. Girls ages 14 and under can audition noon-2 p.m. April 9 and 4-5:30 p.m. April 10. Those 15 and over can audition 3-6 p.m. April 9 and 6-8 p.m. April 10. Girls below age 14 should be prepared to sing the song “Tomorrow” and others should prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of either show. Please bring sheet music in the correct key as well as shoes and clothes appropriate for movement (and tap shoes if you have them). The exhibit is a retrospective of the music and arts during the fall of the industrial revolution, opening the door for the vibrant arts community Pittsburgh has today.

”Communal Resurrection: The Soul of a Community” images by Steve Prince, April 21-June 18, 707 and 709 Penn Galleries, 707-709 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh. Opening reception 5:30-10 p.m. April 21. The exhibit chronicles the progression of Black music from the fields to hip-hop. The series reveals how the music became a balm for people whose names, culture and gods were under siege through the stultifying system of American capitalism.
