The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presents the first concert of their 50th Season titled “Celebrate 50” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg. The concert opens with Sibelius’s Finlandia featuring a side-by-side performance with select members of the WYSO Philharmonic (youth symphony), followed by Maxim Lando on piano performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor. Runway Fashion Show – Westmoreland Cultural Trust will present the annual fashion show fundraiser at The Palace Theatre in Greensburg Oct. 17. Casting Call – Rashaad Newsome, renowned New York-based artist, will make his Pittsburgh debut of Shade Compositions, on Dec. 12 at Carnegie Music Hall. Shade Compositions is an ongoing performance project that combines culturally-specific gestures with improvisational orchestral music, live video, and sound mixing. Beginning on Nov. 13, Newsome will be working in Pittsburgh with The Warhol and PearlArts Studios to cast local performers, and stage rehearsals for Shade Compositions. He is seeking charismatic and energetic self-identifying black females and femmes between the ages of 18-40 who are serious, highly committed, and professional. Artists, singers, performers, models, and actresses are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a paid opportunity. This project is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Devan Shimoyama: Cry, Baby and is co-presented with PearlArts Studios.

”Created, Collected, Conserved: The Life Stories of Paintings” exhibition now through Nov. 1, in the Scaife Galleries at the Carnegie Museum of Art, 4400 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh. The exhibition follows seven of the museum’s paintings over thousands of miles, showing how extensive research and new technology can uncover fascinating stories. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays. The museum is closed Tuesdays. Admission is $19.95 adults, $14.95 for those over 65 years old, $11.95 for children ages 3-18 and students with an ID, free for members and children ages 2 years and younger.
The Art of the Brick: Lego art exhibition at the Carnegie Science Center now through Jan. 7, by artist Nathan Sawaya, which will include original artworks and versions of well-known masterpieces such as Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and a 20-foot-long T. rex dinosaur skeleton. When you’re finished touring the exhibition, explore Science of the Brick, a hub for hands-on play, featuring 17 activity tables with brick building challenges and interactives, plus free-play and demonstration areas. Create your own brick masterpieces, build a maze out of LEGO bricks, compose a melody using a music box made from LEGO bricks, build cars and race them, and more. The purchase of a ticket to the exhibit is required for access to Science of the Brick. Due to the popularity of this exhibit, the science center is offering timed ticketing. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is working to transform their current Walton Hall into a new exhibit called “Egypt on the Nile” and they are looking for your feedback. Dr. Erin Peters, Carnegie’s joint assistant curator of science and research and lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh, will be hosting a series of five monthly meetings for those who are able to attend the entire series. Dinner consisting of sandwiches or salads and free parking will be available to anyone available to attend. The meetings will occur on the third Thursday of every month, and the group will share ideas and discuss primary themes and major sections of the future exhibition. Lonestar with Chris Higbee - California University of Pennsylvania and the Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency have teamed up to create Vulcan Fest Homecoming Weekend, Oct. 13, which includes Cal U’s traditional Homecoming activities plus a festival and free outdoor concert that’s open to the public. The concert will be held outside Adamson Stadium at Roadman Park, on Cal U’s upper campus, and will begin immediately after the homecoming football game.
