Entertaining dog show to grace the stage of the State Theatre

The State Theatre in Uniontown is bringing something new to the stage when it plays host to “Mutts Gone Nuts” at 7 p.m. April 6.

Scott and Joan Houghton have dedicated their lives to training rescue dogs and taking them on the road to perform.

The comedy dog thrill show will include incredible high flying Frisbee dogs, tight-wire dogs, dancing dogs, magic dogs, and the one and only “Sammie the Talking Dog.”

Erica Miller, executive director at the State Theatre, said she attended a booking conference in New York, which she goes to every year, and that’s where she discovered the show.

An executive director for another presenting organization told Miller how great the show was, which prompted her to book the show.

“I thought it would be something fun to do, and it is so unique,” Miller said, adding that there has never been a dog entertainment show at the theater before.

“We have so many people in our area who are dog lovers and who support our local animal shelters that I thought it would be a good fit,” she said. “I think this show will bring people to our theater who might never have been here before.”

Because the Houghton’s have a passion for rescue dogs, they will be doing their part to help the local rescue, Fayette Friends of Animals, by offering pictures with “Sammie the Talking Dog” in the lobby after the show.

The pictures will be $5 and the proceeds will go to the shelter.

Miller said Fayette Friends of Animals will also be set up in the theater’s lobby before and after the show to accept any donations that show-goers are willing to bring, from money donations and food items to toys, grooming items or cat litter.

“This is something that we’re all looking forward to,” said Miller. “I think everybody’s going to have a good time.”

Tickets for the show are $20. $25 and $30 and can be purchased at www.statetheatre.info, by calling 724-439-1360 or at the door.
