Music Review: Jeremy Renner – ‘Love and Titanium’
Jeremy Renner sheds his Marvel superhero persona to produce a powerful declaration of hope, faith and healing on his latest release.
The 53-year-old actor gets real as he navigates a painful rehabilitation process after experiencing a near-death snowplow accident in January 2023.
“Love and Titanium” contains seven tracks that provide inspiration for anyone going through a difficult situation. Renner pours his heart and soul into each poignant arrangement that details his motivations and fears during recovery.
“Lucky Man” appropriately opens the set with Renner realizing how fortunate he is to be given another chance to appreciate all that he has in this world as he confesses, “Never knew what I had until it was almost too late.”
“The River” speaks to the transformational cleansing of going through a life-changing experience by answering a wake-up call with a renewed intensity for living.
The title track refers to the abundance of love and a little titanium that aided his full recovery as he sings, “The worst is over now/Can nothing keep me down/Even if tomorrow and the next day never come.”
On “Wait,” Renner humbly asks for patience in dealing with his shortcomings by demonstrating progress a little bit each day when he proclaims, “For whatever it’s worth, I know that it hurts/You are the ocean and I am the earth/Hide in my head, leave things unsaid/I am the needle and you are the thread.”
“Garden of Stone” highlights the inner peace experienced when those we love begin to realize their own personal hopes and dreams as a direct result of our love and support over the years.
“Lonesome Town” is a touching act of trust with Renner relying on his faith to lift him out of the isolation of darkness and into the radiant light of love and forgiveness.
“Survive” is the intense closer that unleashes an unwavering passion to never let the past control the future and to continuously push forward by looking fear straight in the eye and not blinking.
Renner’s impressive effort reminds us that we are all superheroes inside with the potential to perform small miracles on a daily basis.
