“Mexican Masks: Symbols, Celebrations, Satire and Safety,” an exhibit at the Latin American Cultural Center in Oakland, will run from Sept. 26 through April 27, 2024. The exhibit uses photos, artworks, videos, and masks-both ancient and contemporary-from diverse regions of Mexico to highlight the many prominent roles of masks in the country’s culture. “Imprinting in Their Time: Japanese Printmakers, 1912-2022” is now open at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. The exhibition examines how the role of a printmaker has transformed through international encounters, new sources of inspiration, and artistic motivation.
