2 min read

The Waynesburg University Players will present “A Grand Night for Acting,” Wednesday, April 27.

The workshop will be held in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center on the campus of Waynesburg University at 9:15?p.m. Admission is free, reservations are not required and the public is cordially invited to attend.

?Directed by Edward L. Powers, associate professor of theatre at Waynesburg University, the Waynesburg University Players is an organization that encompasses all theatre-related activities on campus. Members of the Players are also part of Alpha Psi Omega, a nationally recognized honorary theatre organization.

“A Grand Night for Acting,” an evening of student directed shows, will feature two plays. The performances will be presented in a workshop format that will allow time for questions and feedback from audience members.

Sam Miller, a junior business management major from Perkasie, Pa., will direct the first show titled “Red Carnations.” This play is a comedy of manners that centers on a young man trying to meet a young lady in a park.

The second show is an original script written and directed by Mike Winland, a senior communication (sports broadcasting/information) major from Sardis, Ohio. His play, “The Pennsylvania Dispatch,” tells the story of a young man restarting a stagnant career as a news journalist; however, the paper he has joined is not exactly what he had in mind.

“It is always exciting to see students experience theatre from a new perspective,” Powers said.

“These two student directors are very passionate and serious about their shows, and they have selected strong casts which include a few Waynesburg University Player veterans, as well as several new faces.”
