1 min read

State Sen. Tim Solobay, D-Eighty Four, and state Rep. Bill DeWeese, D-Waynesburg, have announced the receipt of more than $90,000 in clean energy grants for a company in Greene County.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the grants for the installation of in-line turbines at three Greene County mine water treatment plants.

?Clean Green Hydro LLC was awarded three $31,250 grants from the alternative and clean energy program to install at each of the three operations’ 25 kilowatt turbines that will be powered by the flow of water through a pipeline.

The company received identical grants for the AMD Reclamation industrial treatment plant in Dunkard Township, at Dana Mining Co.’s industrial treatment plant, also in Dunkard Township, and at the Warwick Mine dewatering plant in Monongahela Township.

“Continuing efforts to find cleaner ways to produce energy is critical to our environment and our economic future,” Solobay said. “These grants provide incentives toward continued progress in developing alternatives.”

“This nearly $100,000 in state funds is money well spent, as it represents an embrace of forward-leaning technology to augment traditional energy sources,” DeWeese said.
