Awards presented to Lions Club members
Gene Rush, president of the West Greene Area Lions Club, recently presented Tom Headlee, Greene County register/recorder, the Monarch Chevron Award for 50 years of service. In turn, Headlee presented the Monarch Chevron Award for 25 years of service to Rush.
Headlee has held every position in the club over the years. He co-founded the Center Township Fire company, helped organize the Pioneer Festival, was a member of the West Greene school board, treasurer of the Greene County Historical Museum, was a member of the Waynesburg Elks Club and is a member of the Waynesburg Moose and Masonic Lodges.
Headlee has served as president of the PA Recorders of Deeds Association, belongs to the Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans Court Association, has served on the board of the Community Foundation, serves as treasurer of the Soil Conservation Service and is president of the Genealogical Society.
He and his wife, Pauline, have four daughters, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rush has formerly served as president and secretary of the club for several years.
He purchased Robert L. Lantz Funeral Home in Rogersville in 1985, and he and his wife, Judy, established Rush Grocery & Video Convenience Store in Rogersville, including the Sub Express franchise.
He and his wife were named Citizens of the Year by the Harvey-Aleppo Grange in May.
They are the parents of two sons, a stepson, a daughter, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
