Two killed in separate Greene County crashes
State and local police responded to two separate and unrelated crashes that occurred on Greene County roads this past week, which claimed the lives of two people.
A 24-year-old Fayette County man was killed Monday afternoon when the motorcycle he was operating and a car collided in Jefferson Township, Greene County.
State police said David Ray Rusnak Jr. of Ellsworth was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Greg Rohanna shortly after the crash.
Police said the collision occurred at 5:55 p.m. when Rusnak, operating a 2000 Yamaha YZF motorcycle, was traveling north on Havers Hill Road.
Police said that after traveling through a right curve, Rusnak traveled “slightly” into the southbound lane and then attempted to correct the motorcycle but lost control.
Police said Rusnak then became separated from the motorcycle and slid into the southbound lane where he was struck by a 2006 Kia sedan driven by Jon Wolfe, 47, of Carmichaels.
Police said Wolfe and three passengers in his vehicle were not injured in the crash and the car sustained only minor front end damage.
Volunteer firefighters from Jefferson Township assisted police at the crash.
In other news, Cumberland Township police continue to investigate a Saturday morning accident that claimed the life of a Rices Landing man.
Greene County Coroner Gregory P. Rohanna pronounced Kenneth Martin Pattison, 18, dead around 6:38 a.m., following the single-vehicle accident on Crucible Road. Police said the accident occurred around 5 a.m., and indicated that Pattison was driving the vehicle.
Authorities said Pattison was traveling west on Crucible Road towards Carmichaels when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.
An investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, police said.
Crucible and Cumberland Township volunteer fire departments assisted police at the scene of the accident.
