Della Elizabeth Gibbs
Della Elizabeth Gibbs, 96, of Waynesburg, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 6, 2011, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born May 14, 1915, in Four States, W.Va., a daughter of the late Alonzo Thigpen and Florence Christian Hill.
Mrs. Gibbs was a homemaker and a former resident of Pitt Gas. She lived in Waynesburg since 1968.
She was a member of Signal of Light Full Gospel Church in Edenborn.
Mrs. Gibbs was a foster parent for several children, and she also helped raise a few of her grandchildren.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading, gardening, fishing and watching golf, tennis and baseball. She also had a love for animals.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Edward Tedder and wife Shirley of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Evaughn Gibbs of Waynesburg, with whom she made her home, and Teryle K. Gibbs of Calumet City, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, including Carlos Gibbs, whom she raised; 24 great-grandchildren, including Christopher Tyler, whom she helped raise; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, Olden A. Gibbs, are two daughters, Betty Tyler and Deborah Spriggs; two sons, John Powell and Robert Powell; and siblings William Thigpen, Virginia Morris, James Thigpen and Lena Hill.
