WCCC offers basic safety orientation
Westmoreland County Community College is offering a one-day safety course which is required for oil and gas industry employees or contractors starting Friday, Sept. 9 at the Youngwood campus.
The SafeLand Basic Orientation and Certification class is designed for employees or contractors, who are working within the natural gas industry.
The safety training is required by many of the major organizations for employees and contractors who will consistently work in site preparation, drilling, production, or completion activities and/or facilities.
?Developed by the Petroleum Education Council, the class meets the orientation requirements for natural gas companies that do exploration, production, drilling and/or refining work for any of the leading oil and gas operators.
Covering topics such as confined space, rigging, fall protection, hazardous communications, emergency response and fire protection, this orientation has become the standard program for the industry and certifies students at an awareness level.
Upon successful completion of the course, each student will be issued a photo ID with a unique barcode that is stored in an online database.
The class will meet from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a half-hour break. Tuition is $195 per person and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.
Courses will also be held Friday, Oct. 7 at the WCCC Indiana County Education Center, Indiana; Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the WCCC Greene County Education Center, Waynesburg; and Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Youngwood campus.
WCCC also offers this one-day orientation and the three-day SafeLand Core Compliance and Certification on a contract basis to employers.
