Cumberland Coal Resources donates to United Way
Cumberland Coal Resources, LP is celebrating 30 years of giving to Greene County United Way, reaching over $2 million in donations.
Cumberland Coal Resources’ very first campaign contribution was just $4,000. In 1990 it increased to $45,000 and $75,000 by the year 2000.
In 2009 they reached, for the first time, over the $100,000 level of contributions.
“The week-long campaign was so exciting for me and for Hayley (Finley, United Way executive assistant),” said Barb Wise, executive director of United Way. “Everyone was so nice to us as we toured the mine and the prep plant. I visited the harbor site on the river and drove the coal train from the harbor to the mine. We had such a good time meeting and greeting the miners as they entered and exited the mine. What a great committee to work with, they were awesome.”
The 2012 Cumberland Coal campaign has raised over $122,000, putting the combined 30-year contributions to surpass $2 million in donations.
“Cumberland employees have always been so generous when it comes to those less fortunate. I am so proud to be part of such a great team,” said Kathy Richards, Campaign Committee Chair.
