Sex offender sentenced for not reporting move
WAYNESBURG — A Carmichaels man was sentenced recently in Greene County Court to serve three to six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with requirements for registered sex offenders and failing to verify his address with police.
Reckard Franklin Snyder Jr., 39, pleaded guilty to the charges before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman on Dec. 21.
Snyder was arrested on the charges on Oct. 11 after police learned that he was not in compliance with state Megan’s Law requirements from investigators in Harrisburg, who became aware that Snyder had moved to the Carmichaels area and had not reported the move to state police.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates, police determined through their investigation that Snyder previously resided in Girard, Erie County, and moved into his current residence in Carmichaels sometime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 11.
Police said they found Snyder at the residence on Oct. 11 and took him into custody without incident.
When police asked him why he failed to comply with sex offender laws, police said Snyder told authorities that he simply “forgot.”
Snyder was convicted of a sex crime in Fayette County Court in 2002; however, the specific nature of the conviction was not released. According to the state Megan’s Law website, www.pameganslaw.state.pa.us, Snyder also was convicted of aggravated indecent assault in Girard in January 2004.
The complaint also states that Snyder had registered with state police in November 2008 while living at a residence in Greene County. Snyder was initially charged with two counts each of failing to comply with requirements for registered sex offenders and failing to verify his address with police; however, one count of each charge was withdrawn during his hearing on Dec. 21.
