Carroll Joe Ross
Carroll Joe Ross, 79, of Aleppo Township, Greene County, died at 11:41 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, after being in failing health since July.
He was born July 7, 1932, in Aleppo Township, son of the late John Milton and Mary Mildred Murray Ross.
Mr. Ross had resided in Aleppo Township all of his life and was a member and former deacon of Windy Gap Independent Church, where he had been a groundskeeper for the past several years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army as a corporal with the 1844 Field Artillery and with “B” Battery, 594th FA BN in Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army Occupation Medal.
Mr. Ross enjoyed his “bench” friends at the Aleppo Store, attending the livestock auction, trains and watching the RFD channel.
He was a former laborer in pipeline construction and was last employed as a truck driver with the former Tower Lines Inc. in Warwood, W.Va., for 22 years, prior to retiring in 1982.
On January 19, 1959, he married Zelda Marcella Sampson, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Terry, husband of Anita Ross; two daughters, Catherine, wife of Robert Fullerton, and Connie Lynn, wife of Kurt Jones, both of Aleppo Township; a brother, Lanny B. Ross of Aleppo Township; and six grandchildren.
