Powers to premiere original one-act play
Waynesburg University will showcase the original work of Edward L. Powers, associate professor of theatre at Waynesburg University.
The one-act play, Glenside, will run Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.
Glenside is a tale about two men who are forced to confront their loneliness after they meet in a cemetery. While visiting the graves of their respective wives, the two realize that to recover from their losses they need each other. Although coping with similar feelings of guilt and heartbreak, a major distinction separates them.
“Even though they are from different times and realms, the two men have quite a bit in common,” Powers said. “Both are looking for forgiveness and feel they must use each other in order to find what they are seeking.”
The drama, which began as a comedy, embodies a prominent theme of forgiveness.
Powers based the play on his experiences growing up near a cemetery. Dr. James Bush, professor of mathematics at Waynesburg University, and theatre alumni Matt London and Dan Wozniak will star in the production.
As opening night approaches, Powers hopes the audience will enjoy the show.
In addition to writing, Powers will direct and star in the production.
