Community Action Southwest accepting “Getting Ahead” applications, donations
Community Action Southwest (CAS) is now accepting applications for the next class of students to enroll in “Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’-By World.”
This program, based on a curriculum developed by the aha! Process, engages families through activities, discussions, and resources to help them understand the full impact of his or her personal situation in poverty.
?Topics discussed include: the hidden rules of socioeconomic class, how to develop both financial and non-financial resources, and budgeting and savings. Over the 17-week course, each participant will develop a list of personal resources and created an individual plan to set goals and create a stable and secure life for themselves and their families.
The course will be held once a week starting the first week of August and will continue through early December. Each class will begin with a family-style meal, and child care will be provided. Gift-card incentives will be paid to each participating family in attempt to remove barriers, such as the cost of gas.
On June 7, 10 families graduated from the inaugural “Getting Ahead” class.
CAS is seeking community support through donations of food, meals and space, and/or referrals of class participants.
Anyone interested in enrolling in the course or supporting the course through donations or volunteering may call Mary Beth Crouch at 724-225-9550 x 494 for more information.
