BENEFIT CONCERT – Cornerstone Ministry Center will host an evening of Christian music and comedy, “Singing for My Jesus,” featuring Betty Riecks with Don Ammon, on Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m. A free will offering will be taken to benefit the ongoing renovations of CMC, operated by CBM Ministries of SWPA.
BAKE SALE – A bake sale will held at the county courthouse on June 3. Items available for sale include sandwiches, veggie pizza, salads, drinks and various desserts. Sale benefits the Auxiliary of the Center Twp. Volunteer Fire Department.
DRIVER CLASS – AARP Driver Safety Class will be offered on June 3 in the Jefferson Community Center. This is an eight-hour course beginning at 8:30 p.m. A 5 % discount is available on one’s auto insurance premium. Bring a lunch and beverage. To register, call 724-883-4065.
FREE PICNIC – The 10th annual Carmichaels Community Day Picnic will be held at McCann Pavilion in Wana B Park., Carmichaels, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities for the entire family include free raffles, free lunch, free swimming for the first 200 people, music, karaoke and a 50/50 drawing. FIRE SAFETY – The Family Literacy and Children’s Dept. of the Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg will be co-sponsoring a 3-part series for young children and their families on personal and home safety at the library. The first session will be presented on June 4 from 10 a.m. to noon by a speaker from the local fire department. Center Township VFD will also be there with “Sparky” and the Waynesburg VFD will bring their fire truck. The second session will take place on June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. Jason Craig from the Emergency Management Agency will talk with the children and their families on emergency preparedness. RECOVERY PROGRAM – Jonathan Johnson, LCSW, will be presenting a free program sponsored by Greene County Human Services June 7, 14 and 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This program is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about mental illness and the recovery philosophy of mental illness. FAMILY EVENT – Dads are invited to bring their elementary aged children for a night out on June 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Community Action Southwest, located at 58 East Greene Street in Waynesburg. YARD SALE – The Humane Society of Greene County will hold a yard sale on Saturday, June 11 at the pole barn at the Greene County Fairgrounds at 8 a.m. The Humane Society is in need of donated items and is accepting donations of a variety of items in good, clean condition. No clothing, please. RUMMAGE SALE – St. Thomas the Apostle Parish will hold its annual rummage and plant sale on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Marcellus Social Hall on Jefferson Road in Jefferson. All proceeds benefit the Ladies Guild.
GARDEN PARTY – The 2011 Greene County Historical Society Garden Party promises to be an afternoon bouquet of charming flowers from Douglass Greenhouse, gardening demonstrations, music, food, raffles and a special segment on the history of quilting with Carolyn Patterson. This engagement starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 12 at the Historical Society, located at 918 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg. Tickets are $10 in advance and this event is by reservation only.
FARMER’S MARKET – Every Saturday May through September from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be a Farmer’s Market Fair in Greensboro. In addition to the locally grown and produced products, there will be activities for children, cooking classes and farm demonstrations.
