By For The Greene County Messenger 1 min read

The insurance company for a Greene County woman whose house caught on fire has filed suit against the manufacturer of the coffee maker that was blamed for the blaze.

?Debbie Lipscomb was insured by Allstate when her house on Haines Ridge Road in Mount Morris caught on fire on June 13, 2009, according to the court filing, transferred to federal court in Pittsburgh last week.

The fire caused damage in excess of $50,000, and Allstate wants Applica Inc., the Florida-based company that manufactured the coffee maker, to pay for the damages. The lawsuit claimed that an investigation into the blaze showed that the fire was “caused by a failure in the coffee maker.”

There was extensive damage to the house and contents of Lipscomb’s home, according to the suit.
