John R. Orum

John R. Orum, 82, of Sycamore, died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.

He was born March 15, 1928, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late James Edward and Josephine Willkie Orum. He had resided in the Sycamore area since 1986.

Mr. Orum was a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, having served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was discharged as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army March 15, 1988.

He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 330 and Disabled American Veterans Post 123, both in Waynesburg, and also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4753 and Eagles Club, both in Waynesburg.

Mr. Orum looked forward to working in his garden in the spring. He enjoyed his dogs and was known for baking bread, buns and pies for friends and family.

On December 13, 1963, he married Irmgard Kiermeier, who died in 1998.

Surviving are a son, Lewis J. Orum, at home; two daughters, Linda, wife of Kenneth McGowan of Wind Ridge, and Teresa, wife of Ron Moore of Washington; a brother, Kenneth Orum of Somerset, Ohio; four sisters, Lucille Crane of Florida, Mary Martin of Newark, Ohio, Charliene Pennington of Cleveland, Ohio, and Betty Elder of Wheeling, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are two brothers, James E. and William Orum; and a sister, Virginia Chambers.
