Edward Gibson Leichter

Edward Gibson Leichter passed away February 26, 2011.

He was born May 22, 1925, in Rock Lick, W.Va., a son of Clara and John Leichter.

Mr. Leichter was raised in Wind Ridge, where he graduated high school.

At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, later the U.S. Army Air Forces. During World War II, he served a major portion of time in China, Burma and India, flying over the Hump.

He retired from the Air Force with 20 years of service in November 1964. He followed that with a 19-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in January 1992.

Mr. Leichter was an avid blood donor with a credit of 14 gallons and had worked as a volunteer at Cape Coral Hospital.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Charlotte; a daughter, Sandra; two brothers, Ronald (Kathleen) of the state of Indiana and William (Shirley) of Virginia; and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Deceased are his parents; a son, Douglas; and four brothers, Lyle, John, Arthur and Leo.
