Betty June Long
Betty June Long, 81, of Carmichaels, died at 12:31 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.
She was born June 27, 1930, in Wyano, a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Leggin Markulik.
Mrs. Long was a 1948 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and resided in Cumberland Township most of her life.
She was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society, and at the time of her death, she was serving as secretary. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, having held several offices in the Greene County Court and Past Regents Club of Pittsburgh. She also was a member of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 Women’s Auxiliary, Carmichaels Women’s Civic Club and the former Carmichaels Democrat Women’s Club. She served as a Greene County Democratic Committeeperson, Queens Committee for King Coal Association and former Den Mother for the local Cub Scout Pack.
Mrs. Long enjoyed bowling with Green Hills Bowling League, bingo and bus trips to the casinos.
On August 4, 1951, she married Wayne M. Long, who died March 26, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter, Patti J. Fancher and husband Toby of Waynesburg; two sons, Michael R. Long and wife Herbie of Carmichaels and Marc L. Long and wife Kelly of Gaithersburg, Md.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin F. Markulik and wife Barbara of Aurora, Colo., and H. James Marckulik and wife Clara of Carmichaels; sisters-in-law Mary Markulik of Washington and Dolores Markulik of Carmichaels; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Betty Long of Carmichaels.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a son, Col. Gary Long; a daughter, Sonja Long, in infancy; and three brothers, Michael “Jack” Markulik, William Charles Markulik and Bernard A. Markulik.
