2 min read

CARMICHAELS — The board of directors of the Greene Academy of Art met Tuesday in the academy. President Ed Chess reported that Jake Blaker, recreation director for Greene County, had donated a ceremonial American flag and a Pennsylvania flag to the academy.

U.S. Rep. Mark Critz, D-Johnstown, will procure an American flag that has flown over the Capitol and donate it to the academy. The directors agreed to purchase a telescoping flag pole with light to be placed in the academy courtyard.

It also has in its possession a flag from the Whiskey Rebellion of the early 1790s.

Kathy Kerr, chairman for the 33rd Greene Academy Homecoming and Christmas Craft Show, reported that to date more than a dozen crafters have returned contracts to participate. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 and from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 13.

Hartley Inn will operate the kitchen, and the piano students of Sandy Guritza will provide holiday music on a keyboard in the hallway both days.

There is free admission, and the unique handcrafted items are excellent for Christmas gifts. The academy will be decorated in the Victorian theme at 2 p.m., Nov. 4, by the directors.

Cub Scout 1262 toured the historic academy recently for a merit badge.

The next meeting of the board of directors wil be the fourth Tuesday in March 2012.
