State police to host child restraint checkup
State police in Greene County will host a free child restraint checkup on Monday, Sept. 19.
The checkup event, part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carmichaels-Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Department at 420 W. George St. in Carmichaels.
Police said state police-certified child safety seat technicians will be on hand to inspect all seats to ensure they are properly installed and to check for recalls.
The public is invited to attend. Any parents wishing to have their child restraints checked for recalls and to learn how to properly secure child seats are encouraged to participate.
State police will be actively participating in the National Child Passenger Safety Week campaign from Sept. 18 through Sept. 24.
During this period, police will be taking additional steps to ensure public safety on the highways.
This will be done through enforcement and education.
The enforcement efforts will include additional troopers patrolling the highways and engaging in aggressive enforcement of occupant restraint and child safety seat violation, as well as crash causing violations, which include driving under the influence, speeding and aggressive driving.
