Crown ranked best at 125 by d3wrestle.com

2 min read

Even though the first action of the 2011-12 wrestling season is still over a month away, Waynesburg University junior Alex Crown is already making big headlines and some program history.

The third-year standout, who finished fourth at the NCAA Division III National Championships last March, is ranked No. 1 in the country at 125 pounds by d3wrestle.com. It is believed to be the first time that a Waynesburg wrestler has been given the top spot by the prestigious national website.

As a sophomore last season, Crown won his second-straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) title and finished in the top two at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships for the second straight season after winning the event for the first time.

The Yellow Jackets begin the season on Oct. 29 with their annual Orange/Black wrestle-offs.

Their first live action of the season comes on Nov. 5 at the Messiah Invitational.

Crown will get plenty of opportunities to prove himself as the nation’s top 125-pounder as Waynesburg’s schedule includes strong Division II opponents in Shippensburg, Mercyhurst and West Liberty State. The Jackets will also face some of the top Division III schools in the country as they host Ithaca (fourth at nationals) and will travel to the Gator Duals on Dec. 18 to possibly meet Delaware Valley (19th at nationals), Elmhurst (10th at nationals) and Loras (24th at nationals).
