Area Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association in compliance
State Auditor General Jack Wagner has announced that the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association in Carmichaels/Cumberland Township was in compliance with state laws and regulations.
“We commend the relief associations for complying with all the applicable state laws, contracts, bylaws and administrative procedures,” Wagner said in a press release. “The proper management of funds ensures that they will continue to support local firefighters who bravely put themselves at risk to help protect their neighbors’ health and property.”
VFRAs are nonprofit organizations established to give financial protections to volunteer firefighters injured while volunteering.
They are funded by a 2 percent state tax on fire insurance.
