Fire damages house in Crucible
CRUCIBLE — Firefighters battled a blaze on Aug. 23 that damaged a two-story house.
Mike Riggen, first assistant chief with the Carmichaels Volunteer Fire Department, said no one was injured and a dog was rescued shortly after the fire started around 2 p.m. in the second story of the wooden-frame house on First Avenue.
Riggen said when the fire was contained about a half hour later, the upstairs sustained heavy damaged and there was smoke and water damage through the house.
He estimated the damage at $25,000.
“The state police fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire,” Riggen said.
Riggen said members of the Rodriguez family were home when the fire started, but they were able to escape the smoke and flames. Riggen said the family will not be able to return to their home any time soon.
The American Red Cross said it is assisting four adults and one child with food, clothing and shelter.
Riggen said firefighters rescued a large dog, perhaps a German shepherd, that was trapped inside the home shortly after the fire started.
Riggen said the Carmichaels and Rices Landing volunteer fire departments assisted the Crucible volunteer firefighters.
