Edith M. Wamsley, 71, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Carmichaels, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, January 25, 2012, in her home.

She was born December 8, 1940, in Greensboro, daughter of the late George Vernon “Hank” Jenkins and the late Betty L. Darr Jenkins Popovich.

Mrs. Wamsley attended Southeastern Greene schools in Greene County and was a homemaker.

She was a former member of Greensboro Baptist Church and resided in Carmichaels for many years prior to moving to live with her sister, Louise, in Cleveland, Ohio, about a year ago.

Surviving are two sons, Charles R. Smith of Carmichaels and Frank R. Smith Jr. and wife Janet of Elko, Nev.; three daughters, Alice M. Smith of Dilliner, Anita L. Sullivan and husband Scott of Grindstone and Juanita M. Meaige and husband Thomas of Marion, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, John D. Jenkins of Elko, George S. Popovich and Walter S. Popovich, both of Akron, Ohio, and David L. Popovich and wife Jeannie of Korea; a sister, Louise LaBonte of Cleveland, with whom she made her home; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Anthony W. Smith, who died in infancy; two grandchildren, David Allen Wrick and April Lynn Brownfield; and two brothers, Charles Raymond Jenkins, who died in infancy, and Vernon Gene “Buck” Jenkins.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
