Man faces multiple charges following crash

State police said they will file multiple charges against a Carmichaels man after a bizarre incident in Franklin Township, Greene County, early Sunday.

Troopers patrolling on Route 21 near Loves Hill spotted the 22-year-old man walking along the road at 1:50 a.m., police said. Officers said that the man told them that he was “walking home” and troopers offered the man a ride as a courtesy.

While driving the man home, police said they came upon a large accident scene and learned that the man had crashed his pickup truck and then fled the scene on foot.

Police said that the man had been apparently traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Route 21 when he lost control of his pickup truck, drove up an embankment and then landed on top of a guardrail.

Troopers said that the truck traveled on top of the guardrail for about 175 feet, causing significant damage, before breaking free from the fencing. The truck then traveled several hundred more feet over a hillside before striking a culvert and coming to a stop. Police said the truck sustained “extreme damage.”

The driver was not injured. His identity is being withheld pending the formalization of charges.
