Raymond F. Santee
Raymond F. Santee, 95, of Waynesburg, died at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 16, 1916, in Geneva, Ohio, son of the late Francis Evan and Flossie Pearl Anna Smith Santee.
Mr. Santee resided in Greene County most of his life.
He was an employee of the former Waynesburg Brickyard and was last employed by the former Greenway Manufacturing Co. in Waynesburg for 28 years, prior to retiring in 1979 as a foreman.
Mr. Santee was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army as a private first class with Company K, Hq Company 28th Infantry Division, 110th Regiment.
He served in five major battles including the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and Ardennes, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Defense Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars.
Mr. Santee was present at the raising of the U.S. flag over Germany.
He was a founding member of Waynesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, and also a member of American Legion Post 330, Waynesburg Moose Lodge and the former Waynesburg Elks Lodge.
Mr. Santee enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, horse races and playing poker.
On September 15, 1943, he married Katherine Jane Huffman, who survives.
Also surviving are son, Robert Santee of Waynesburg; a daughter, Raymona Moore of Seaville, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Dorothy Santee and Jeannette Wise; and three brothers, Harold, Robert and Howard Santee.
Mr. Santee was the last of his immediate family.
