Waynesburg’s Headlee wins Section 4-AAA wrestling crown
Waynesburg Central freshman A.C. Headlee pinned Canon-McMillan’s Brendon Price in 1:59 to win the 106-pound title at the Section 4-AAA Individual Wrestling Championships.
Teammate Tommy Henderson also advanced to the the title bout, but suffered a technical fall (19-4) to Canon-McMillan’s Solomon Chishko in the 138-pound final.
Shane Piper finished third at 132 pounds after securing a 7-1 decision over Bethel Park’s Paul Dunn, as did Bo Hampson at 152 pounds after he defeated Canon-McMillan’s Will Pihiou, 3-1.
Chase Patton wrestled in the third-place consolation final, but lost to Mt. Lebanon’s Kellan Stout, 10-0.
Michael Heasley pinned Bethel Park’s Justin Fonner in 43 seconds to finish fifth at 126 pounds.
The six wrestlers advanced to the WPIAL Class AAA/Southwest Regional Individual Wrestling Championships, which began Thursday, at Norwin High School.
Headlee (39-1) drew a No. 4 seed and wrestles the winner between Kevin Miller (15-16) of Norwin and Patrick Keyser (8-23) of Hampton, Heasley (19-18) wrestled John Lukart (15-14) of Elizabeth-Forward, Piper (22-15) drew Zach reges (32-8) of Butler, Henderson (21-15) opposed Jesse Giallonardo (28-14) of Hempfield, Hampson (23-13) went against Devin Fallenstein (33-8) of Ringgold and Patton (17-20) wrestled Zack Wright (34-6) of Belle Vernon.
