Steve Preston Cool, 65, of Maidsville, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 surrounded by his family at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Webster Springs on January 14, 1947, a son of the late Homer Preston Cool and the late Lola Carpenter Cool Kucish.

Steve worked for R.G. Johnson, where he made Air Shafts for Coal Mines. He enjoyed rebuilding and restoring automobiles, and spending time with his friends; but his greatest love was his family. He adored his grandchildren, and spent much of his time playing with them.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Linda Jean Long Cool; two sons, Steven Cool and his wife Julie of Morgantown and Rodney Cool and his companion Wanda Weatherholt of Morgantown; his seven grandchildren; three sisters, Sally Tonkin and her husband Kenny of Morgantown, and Candy Long and her husband Randy, and Twila Kucish all of Core; his step-father Tony Kucish of Core, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Lee Cool and Waitman Carpenter Cool; and his grandparents, Barrick and Gussie Carpenter.
