W. Eileen Riess

W. Eileen Riess, 83, of Carmichaels, died at 2:35 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.

She was born June 26, 1928, in Center Township, Greene County, daughter of the late Harrison Morton and Mary Alberta Breese Johnston.

Mrs. Riess was a 1946 graduate of Center Township High School and resided in Carmichaels since 1972.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carmichaels and the Missions (Sewing) Circle of the church.

Mrs. Riess worked as a nursing assistant for 26 years at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1982.

On April 8, 1972, she married George A. Riess, who survives.

Mrs. Riess and her husband volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels from July 1996 until her recent illness.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was loved by all who knew her.

Surviving are three sons, Gary E. Fox of Clarksville, George A. Riess III of Melrose, Fla., and C. Wade Riess and wife Kelly of Fredericksburg, Va.; two daughters, Donna Ratulowski of Camp Hill and Beth Ann Higginbotham and husband Keith of Spraggs; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister Frances J. Crawford of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are daughter Deborah Fox; six brothers, Glenn H. Johnston, Carl I. Johnston, Charles W. Johnston and three who died in infancy; and a sister, Dorothy Johnston.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 224 South Market Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
