Greene Co. firefighter relief association gets good audit

By Heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

An audit of the Greensboro-Monongahela Township Volunteer Firefighters Relief Association’s (VFRA) finances in 2008 and 2009 revealed that the association complied with state laws, according to state Auditor Jack Wagner.

“We commend the relief association management in this Greene County VFRA for complying with all applicable state laws, bylaws and administrative procedures,” Wagner said. “The proper management of funds ensures that they will continue to support local volunteer firefighters who bravely put themselves at risk to help protect their neighbors’ health and property.”

VFRAs are nonprofit organization that provide insurance to volunteer firefighters who are injured responding to emergencies. VFRAs receive money from the 2 percent state tax on fire insurance state residents buy from out-of-state companies and are separate entities from fire departments.
