Bowlby Library announces April events
The Eva K. Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg recently presented the following announcements for the month of April.
n The Bowlby Library will be closed on Good Friday, April 6.
n The library is a collection site during the month of April for the Boy Scouts’ Scouting for Food program. All kinds of canned fruits, vegetables, and other canned products are welcome, as well as sealed, dry packaged foods such as rice, pasta and cereals. Donation boxes will be placed at the entrances of the library, Circulation Desk, Children’s Department and the Family Literacy Department. All donations will benefit the local area food bank.
n Whether you are a job seeker looking for resources to land a new job, a parent looking for free activities for children or a student searching for your next favorite book, “You Belong @ Your Library.” The library is celebrating National Library Week April 8-14 and offering “Fine Free Week” to all Greene county citizens. Return those long overdue materials. Also, take advantage of the valuable resources, such as genealogical collections, materials in print and electronic formats, job seeking resources, English as second language and citizenship classes, and many other creative and resourceful programs.
n The library is offering a Beginner’s “Introduction to Computers” class in April. Participants will learn the basic names and parts of a computer, how to browse the world wide web, and create an email address. There will be three Thursday morning sessions on April 5, 12 and 19; morning sessions are 10 to 11:30 a.m. There will also be three evening sessions on Mondays, April 16, 23 and 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. There is limited seating, so call to register at 724-627-9776.
n The library is offering free S.A.T. Preparation classes to help students planning to take the S.A.T. this spring. The course consists of three Saturday sessions on April 14, 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will cover math, language arts, and writing. If you have a scientific calculator, bring it with you along with a bagged lunch. Students attending all three classes will receive a free set of Barron’s Study Guides. Pre-registration is required. n It’s an After Hours Girls Night In party at the Bowlby Library on Friday, April 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be lots of girly fun that includes manicures, pedicures, hairdos, craft time, snack time and a special Disney version of Jeopardy. Calling all girly girls to come hang out. This includes moms, grandmas, aunts and cousins, too. Call to reserve your spot at the library at 724-627-9776.
n Visit the Bowlby Public Library booth at the Greene County Fairgrounds during ChildFest on Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. This year’s theme is “Mother Goose on the Loose.” This is a free annual event to support education and care of young children. For more information contact the library.
n The Bowlby Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, April 17 at 5 p.m. The book discussion will be “Cleopatra, a Life” by Stacy Schiff. New members are always welcome. Call the library for more information.
n “T.O.P.S. – Taking Off Pounds Sensibly” is a weight management support group that meets every Saturday at the Bowlby Library at 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. New members are always welcome.
