Local literacy program to hold Carnival Day
The Family Literacy Program at Eva K. Bowlby Public Library is hosting its first annual Carnival Day Saturday, April 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration at the event is $1 for children and $5 for adults or a group rate of $10 per family. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Serving as a fundraiser, Carnival Day will provide programming for both children and adults. Games and crafts will be on the library’s lawn and in the children’s department for younger attendees.
While the children enjoy carnival style games, adults are invited to visit a variety of vendors within the library. Representatives from Thirty-One, Longaberger and Scentsy, among others, will be showcasing their products. Local artisans such as Our Glass and Back Alley Shoppe will be on site. Additionally, refreshments will be available for purchase.
Diana Moninger, Family Literacy Program administrator, is excited about the prospect of raising additional funds and promoting the program.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to allow the community to support and learn more about the services that the program offers,” Moninger said. “So much time and devotion has gone into the planning of this event and we hope that families enjoy the carnival.”
Dedicated to providing free literacy services to the community, the Family Literacy Program is holding the event to generate money that can be used for continued sustainability, additional programming and new supplies.

The Family Literacy Program grew from an afterschool-tutoring program with a vision to further educate students of all ages within the Greene County area. Educational, health, social, civic and financial tutoring is offered free of charge to interested parties. Striving to help participants reach their individual educational goals is the purpose of the program.
