COUNTY CALENDAR
EASTER EGG HUNT – The Social Service League will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. in West Park, North Side, Waynesburg (closest to Bowlby Library). Children through age 10 are invited to attend. The Easter bunny will make an appearance and the 4-H rabbit club will also be on site with bunnies for the children to pet. Rain date is Saturday, April 7.
BENEFIT EVENT – The Miracle League of Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands baseball league – which is associated with the Miracle League and PONY that is open to children with special needs ages 3-21 – is holding a 5k run/walk on Saturday, March 31 at Penn State Fayette Campus. The event, titled “2012 Miracle Bunny Trail,” will feature a kid’s ½ mile run/walk at 8:15 a.m., with the main run/walk at 9 a.m., an Easter egg hunt, a visit from the Easter Bunny and other children’s activities. DUCK RACE – On April 1, Southwest Regional Medical Center will present its fourth annual duck race. The “Quacktastic Fest” will be held at Crawford Field in Waynesburg from 1 to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit the American Cancer Society’s Greene County Relay for Life. BLOOD DRIVE – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on Monday, April 2 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion-Harvey’s Grange, located at 106 Grange Road in Graysville.
MEN’S BREAKFAST – A Greene County Men’s Ecumenical breakfast will be held at the Hartley Inn in Carmichaels on Friday, April 6, beginning at 6:30 a.m. All men are invited. Cost is $7, first-time visitors will receive free admission. Proceeds will cover all costs for the breakfast. Organizers are asking all area pastors to announce the event at their respective church services. There will be a guest speaker. JAZZ CONCERT – The Waynesburg University Music Program will present a spring jazz and percussion concert Monday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend. BOARD MEETING – The board of directors of Centennial Cemetery Association will hold its annual board meeting on Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Centennial Church of God, located in Aleppo Township. Anyone having business with the association is welcome to attend.
MEETING SCHEDULED – The Braddock Cemetery Association near Graysville will hold its annual spring meeting on Saturday, April 28 in the cemetery building at 11 a.m. Anyone having winter grave decorations they wish to keep are asked to please remove them by April 21, Please note that this meeting date is one week earlier than usual and the time is two hours earlier than usual. All interested persons are invited to attend the meeting.
QUILT RAFFLE – The Friends of Flenniken Library are selling raffle tickets for a collectible quilt hand-stitched by Juliet Bartoletti, who taught kindergarten in the Carmichaels Area School District for many years. Tickets are on sale at the library circulation desk for $2 each or 3 for $5 and will be available until the drawing is held at noon on June 6. The quilt is on display at the Flenniken Public Library. 4-H PROGRAM – The Greene County 4-H Program invites anyone ages 8 to 18 interested in learning about horses to join the Greene County Horse and Pony Club. This club is open to anyone who has a desire to learn about raising, breeding or riding horses. Owning a horse is not required to participate and benefit from this club. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Greene County Extension Office, located at 26 West High Street, Waynesburg.
