Margaret “Marge” Daruda Smith, 85, of Carmichaels, died unexpectedly Friday, May 4, 2012, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born February 2, 1927, in German Township, Fayette County, daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen Dohanich Daruda.

Mrs. Smith was a 1945 graduate of German Township High School. She retired from Carmichaels Area School District as a custodian at the age of 65 with more than 15 years of service.

She was a homemaker who loved crafting, sewing, baking, cooking and working with her flowers and in her garden. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a pillar of her extended family.

On June 9, 1951, she married Robert J. Smith, who died September 26, 1997.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon L. Miller and husband Brad of New Stanton and Joyce L. Mertz of Uniontown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Daruda of Adah; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are four brothers, John, Nicholas and Michael and Frank Daruda, who died in infancy, and four sisters, Anna Skunda, Mary Hagan, Helen Verostek and Elizabeth Lang.
