Bowlby Library announces upcoming events (copy)

The Eva K. Bowlby Public Library in Waynesburg recently announced the following activities.

n The Family Literacy and Children’s Departments at the Bowlby Public Library are presenting a three-part series for young children and their families on personal and home safety. The first session of the safety series, “Keep Me Safe from Fire,” will be offered on Saturday, June 2 from 10 to 12 p.m. The Center Township Fire Department will be teaching families about fire safety and will also be bringing “Sparky.” The Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department will also be at the library with a fire engine. The second session of “Keep Me Safe” will be held on Saturday, June 9 and will feature the coordinator of the Wellness Outreach at Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation and will be offering basic first aid and an introduction to CPR. Waynesburg Borough Police Department’s Patrolman Brian Tennant will be present for the third “Keep Me Safe” session on Saturday, June 16, with his K-9 partner Dagen, a one-year-old German Shepherd. n The Tiny Tim Tomato Project will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at 5 p.m. for children ages 2 to 6 years of age. Master Gardener Bob Bedison will be at the Bowlby Public Library to guide youngsters on planting and growing their very own healthy tomato plant. There will also be special stories and crafts about gardening with Mrs. Kerry McClure, head of the Children’s department. Register today by calling the library.

n The Groove Club is coming to the Bowlby Public Library on Monday, June 11, at 5 p.m. Get ready to move and groove with Nashville’s beloved children’s entertainers. A group of young, dynamic performers who tour nationwide with a goal of bringing smiles to young children, encouraging audience participation and getting kids dancing will be visiting the Bowlby Public Library and making children in the audience become the stars of the show through an innovative combination of engaging entertainment and educational activity songs. n The Bowlby Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, June 19 at 5 p.m. The book discussion will be “Girl in Hyacinth Blue” by Susan Vreeland. New members are always welcome to attend and join the club.

n The Bowlby Library Summer Reading Kick-Off Festival is on Saturday, June 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lawn. Call the library to register your elementary aged child(ren) for our summer reading clubs in the Children’s Department. Our theme this summer is “Dream Big: Read!” In conjunction with the reading clubs, the Family Literacy Department is enrolling children in their “Dream Big: Learn!” program where the concentration will be on keeping math and social studies skills sharp during the summer months. Free lunches will also be provided during summer reading programs for children by the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.

n The Friends of the Bowlby Public Library is accepting new members. Joining the organization is easy and your tax deductible donation will benefit the library. The Friends of the Library group consists of people who care about libraries and who are interested in promoting the welfare and growth of the Bowlby Library.
