Carmichaels council makes alley one way
CARMICHAELS — Carmichaels Borough Council voted Tuesday to convert Cranberry Alley into a one-way driving lane because of safety issues.
Council agreed potential accidents could arise as motorists are backing out of the Carmichaels Center garage, which is near Morgantown Street, into the alley.
“Vehicles are able to speed into the alley from Morgantown Street, but have to go slower coming up the alley from South Market,” said borough maintenance employee Jim Petron.
Traffic in the alley will be one way from South Market Street to Morgantown Street.
In another matter, council members voted to solicit for bids on the old maintenance truck until the next regular meeting on Nov. 13.
The 1969 Chevrolet is a half-ton truck, but is not in a condition to pass state inspection because of a rotted frame, said Petrone.
Any bids must be written and turned in to the borough building.
